In this guide, I use my coaching skills and competencies, as well as my personal experiences as a practitioner of yoga, to lay out the practical, emotional, and mental steps to establish your practice. “Begin” does not happen until Step 11, and for good reason.

Living Yoga

When I first started yoga, I thought of it as a form of exercise. The physical exercise, the asanas, of yoga, is one part of many. For that part of my practice, I practice at studios which focus on proper alignment, and have a home practice based primarily on B.K.S. Iyengar’s and Donna Farhi’s work. Now, I find yoga my way of life, with support and direction for being the way I want to be. My objective is to live in a way that reflects those principles, as best as I am able, and consistently improving.

One powerful way to experience yoga is through Restorative Yoga. I am a restorative yoga teacher, trained by Judith Hanson Lasater’s Relax and Renew ™ restorative yoga teacher training. As a Type A personality, I started yoga in the physically intense tradition of Bikram Yoga. I came to a point at which I wanted to explore other possibilities. Donna Farhi’s work came into my life, and she opened to me the world of restorative sequences through her book A Return to Wholeness. As I explored other traditions, I was impressed at the holidays when I felt very revved up, wanted an intense workout, and was led through restorative poses. I found tremendous centering and calm. Another time when, exhausted, I faced a 2+ hour drive, I did a restorative pose for all of 10 minutes and came out of it refreshed and energized.

If you are intrigued by this powerful practice, call me. Learn to access the power of these poses. In 2 hours, we talk through what you want to accomplish and practice three restorative poses for you. I provide you with write-ups on and photos of the poses, and check-in with you after you practice the poses on your own.
